Ranks, rewards, unlocks
Cats climb from Stranger to Companion as you get to know them, and you climb your own ladder alongside. Each rung unlocks a card design or more prints to give away. Never anything rarer, so a Foil is a Foil whoever holds it.
On-device recognition
It knows which cat is which. Offline.
Point the camera at a cat and Noraneko finds the animal in the frame, cuts it from the background, and turns its face into a fingerprint, then checks that against every cat you have already met. All of it runs on the phone's own neural engine.

Cards & foils
Every cat prints a card.
Five designs, from a plain Snapshot to a full Foil, each unlocked by how well you know the animal. Cards are three-dimensional objects: they catch the light, they answer the tilt of the phone, and the foil ones move as you move.
Runs are finite. A Snapshot has copies to spare; a Foil is one of one. Giving one away means you no longer have it.
Trading
Trade in person, phone to phone.
Scan the other person's code and the two devices talk directly: over the local network, or over Bluetooth when there is no network at all. Both cards cross before either side commits, so you always see what you are getting and what you are giving.
What keeps track of
Stats for every cat
Days seen, places found, months known, how many genuinely different views you have. A cat's page is a record of a relationship, not a photo album.
Sitting, standing, lying, eating
Poses are recognised automatically and counted per cat. Catching one in all three postures is its own small achievement. Whether it was eating is noted too.
Age and coat
Kitten or adult, and the coat named from a vocabulary of real descriptions: tuxedo, calico, ginger tabby. The guide fills in as you meet the coats, like a dex.
Adoption cards
Help one find a forever home.
Any cat can be turned into a card built for one job: the photograph, the coat, the age, the street it lives on, and the other times you have seen it. Made to be handed to somebody who might take it in.
It is the one card in the app not meant to be collected.
